thanks for the info Turtle Man
Well, I know the 4 most common pet turtle types are: Red Ear Sliders, Cooter, Mud, Musk.
The Red Ears and Cooters can grow to over 12 inched in length. The Mud and Musk are usually half the size.
There may be some that stay small, but most do not.

HA! No sweat.
I just made sure to learn as much as I could on my turtles before getting them. I wasn't going to spend all this money to have them die on me...
now thats a nice new name for the post!
Heh, Thanks for the idea.
I'm not an expert by any means... but I do know a bit. Plus I love turtles. They rock. I would recommend everyone get some pet turtles... as long as you're commited to maintain them properly. They are awesome if you have younger kids, just make sure they wash their hands before and after touching.
Besides, having a turlte in an aquarium beats the crap out of a goldfish.
long live Turtle Man!

Hey! My turtles are actually pretty fast... especially in the water...
And for those interested, here's a pic of my set-up at home...
It's a 20 Gallon Wide tank. Since the tank is not going to be completely full of water, the wide tank allows for more ground room.
Also, since Turtles produce more waste than fish, I have a 40 Gallon in-tank filter as opposed to the normal 20 gallon filter, it helps keep the water crystal clear.
The lamp has a basking bulb which produces a large amount of heat, which is good for them. It helps prevent Shell Rot and other diseases. Acts like the sun in a way.
There is also a water heater to make sure the water temperature dosen't drop to low. The colder the water the more sluggish they get and it's not good for them.
So while they are low maintenance, the initial set-up can be quite costly. I believe once everything was said and done, this tank ended up costing about $150.
Hopefully they won't outgrow this as fast as they did their 10 gallon.
